Suggestions for reducing Christmas and New Year stress

Christmas can be among the most difficult times of the year, highlighting financial pressures, relationship issues or loneliness. To help Samaritans suggest that you

• Drink sensibly or even better avoid alcohol completely
• Keep your expectations of Christmas reasonable - you may not even like Christmas - and that's OK, remember it is just one day in the year
• Talk about how you are feeling to your friends, family, someone you trust or your GP. Remember Samaritans helpline 0800 726 666 is available 24 hours a day - including Christmas Day if you have something on your mind

About Samaritans

The first Samaritans centre in New Zealand was set up in Wellington in 1965. Samaritans has been operating ever since, typically now taking about 20,000 calls a year. Wellington, like the other centres across New Zealand, is there for callers literally every day of the year, 24/7. We offer sympathetic, caring and confidential support to people from all walks of life.
